Karin from Dear Diary
Hi, my name is Karin.

I’m a South African mom to three kids five years and under. I quit my teaching job at the end of 2022 (I’m a qualified high school Biology teacher but taught various junior school subjects during the last three years) to be able to be at home with my kids.

I’m a sucker for a good cappuccino, have a passion for business (even though I have no official qualifications in business or marketing) and love traveling – especially if there are cute new coffee shops to explore!

How Dear Diary started

I’ve used Instagram for business purposes for five years now. I started out as a mommy blogger with a page called @mymommyteacherwifelife.

In 2020 I decided to quit My Mommy Teacher Wife Life because it wasn’t serving my family or myself in the way I needed it to at that stage.

After taking a few months off, I started Dear Diary, a business that creates and sells unique, functional planners (diaries) and other planning stationery.

I ran it as a side hustle for three years, while teaching, and am now running it full time, along with working with my husband in his website design business Swerve Designs. (Check out his business here if you need a website for your business or organisation!)

Why an online course?

I have grown Dear Diary almost exclusively on Instagram. Through many mistakes and trial and error, I have learnt a lot about the platform and marketing a small business in a South African market.

Over the last years I have seen many small businesses be created and then disappear again after a few months.

I have also seen many women start Instagram pages for their businesses and quit posting after a few short weeks because “it just didn’t seem to be working.”

I created this course so that women who have the dream of having a small business in South Africa can live out that dream! Not just for a few weeks or months, but for the long term.

I put together EVERYTHING I have learnt in the last 5 years and created a course that you can watch in a day (if you want to) to start using Instagram to its full potential.
